Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

MARCH 2022 NEWS
These certainly are interesting and complicated times, full of reflection and opportunities for growth, education and action for all of us. In the past seven years, we have grown from a small group of walkers, trekking between houses of worship, into a community of more engaged citizens. Walking two-by-two throughout Charlotte, we have shared ideas, inspirations, concerns, challenges, questions, hopes and dreams. Each of us considered history and current events, as we learned from historians, activists, policy experts and residents. Our service activities helped us put good intentions to work, and through rain, sun, wind and freezing cold, with our WWTC green t-shirts and open hearts, we all served together, learned together, talked together, and walked together. We showed up.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, we all shifted, and WWTC moved to a quarterly model for deeper dives on key community issues: housing, clean water, mental health and education. Now, as folks head back to more normal daily routines, this chapter of WWTC has come to a close. We hope you will feel inspired to take any education, inspiration, or connections you’ve made through WWTC and share them. Consider what you can do to keep walking, talking, serving and building a more connected, compassionate community.
You are community superheroes. Please keep your green t-shirts close by to answer calls for community engagement. We served over 55 organizations over the years - thank you for any continued interest and support. Please stay in touch.
With immense gratitude,
Catherine Armstrong, Mary Engel, Tasha Houston, Addison Ayer, Greta Davis, Ruth McDonald and Susie Papadopulos

"Someone once said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Well, this journey of 100 miles began with a single idea, a simple idea - with profound effects."
-Gail Henderson-Belsito
OUR STORY
Just days after the Charleston church shootings, we found ourselves on a morning walk, troubled by the tragedy, but also profoundly inspired by mercy shown by the slain congregants’ families. To be so filled with grace was such a blessing. So what were we doing to make a positive difference? How could we encourage peace and unity in our community?
We are an open group of residents who invite all to walk or serve with us any time.
Just come with an open mind and heart to walk and serve TOGETHER!
